Stan Musial Was Consistent As Heck During His Career
His power prime was quite good, too. After hitting one homer in 12 games played as a 20-year-old rookie in 1941, Musial never finished another season of his 22-year MLB career with fewer than 10 homers.
He surpassed the 30-homer plateau six times. He did it all during an eight-year span between 1948 and 1955. An average year for Musial within that period included a 1.043 OPS, 32 homers, 41 doubles, 10 triples, 114 RBI, and 118 runs scored.
Nice! While I don't remember that homer from Longo specifically, that 2008 season was certainly a special one, as he went on to win the AL Rookie of the Year Award, leading my Tampa Bay Rays to the World Series! I got to see them beat the Red Sox in the ALCS-clinching game in which David Price got the only save in his MLB career. (I caught the final three innings, after driving over from Tampa, after the Bucs retired Mike Alstott's jersey at halftime vs. Seattle of a Sunday Night Football game. Easily, my greatest sports day ever. Thanks, Matt!
