Ken Griffey Jr.’s 100th & 600th Career Homers – OTD in HR History For Week of 6/9
We have plenty more milestone homers galore to look back on this week.
With MLB’s regular season in full swing, my weekly home run videos have shifted from being random to looking at what happened on each specific day in home run history.
And since you’re on this email list, you get a sneak peek of what I’m sharing for the upcoming week before everyone else does. Enjoy!
Monday, 6/9
6/9/2008: Ken Griffey Jr. gave the Reds a lead by hitting a 600th career home run, which was a classic blast with that sweet swing of his.
6/9/2014: Lonnie Chisenhall tied a franchise record with nine RBI for Cleveland. This performance included five hits, with three of them leaving the yard.
6/9/2019: Howie Kendrick, Trea Turner, Adam Eaton, and Anthony Rendon hit four consecutive home runs for the Nationals and managed to do it in the span of seven pitches.
Tuesday, 6/10
6/10/2002: Marcus Thames hit a home run on the first pitch he ever saw in the big leagues, becoming the 17th MLB player to do so. And he did it against Randy Johnson, of all people.
6/10/2006: Reggie Sanders slugged his 300th career home run. A month earlier, he stole his 300th career base, making him the fifth MLB player to accomplish both feats during a career.
6/10/2013: Adam Dunn demolished this ball to right-center field to give the White Sox a lead against the Blue Jays.
Wednesday, 6/11
6/11/2005: Marlon Anderson came up to pinch-hit for the Mets in the ninth and promptly provided a game-tying inside-the-park home run.
6/11/2001: Michael Young hit his first MLB home run. He’d hit another 184 during his 14-year career.
6/11/1967: Jimmy Wynn hit an absolute moonshot for the Astros at Crosley Field that ended up bouncing onto the highway beyond the park.
Thursday, 6/12
6/12/2010: Daniel Nava slugged a grand slam for the Red Sox on the first pitch he saw in the big leagues.
6/12/2010: Carlos Peña slugged his 15th home run of the season. This blast also set a Rays record by going deep in his sixth straight game.
6/12/1995: Alex Rodriguez hit the first homer of his MLB career. He’d hit a few more along the way before hanging up his spikes, too.
Friday, 6/13
6/13/2010: Jorge Posada hit this grand slam for the Yankees. He did the same thing the game before, becoming the third player in franchise history to hit slams in consecutive contests.
6/13/2012: Chris Davis’ broken bat nearly flew as far as his home run did here.
6/13/2009: Lance Berkman slugged the 300th homer of his MLB career. He’d hit 366 overall before hanging his spikes up, with 326 coming for the Astros.
Saturday, 6/14
6/14/2003: Tino Martinez came back to Yankee Stadium and made it a memorable trip by slugging a couple of home runs.
6/14/1996: Raul Mondesi went dead central for this solo home run off Mark Wohlers.
6/14/1963: Duke Snider hit his 400th career home run in New York while playing for the Mets. He finished with 14 dingers on the year. It was the 14th and final time in his career that he eclipsed double digits in a single season.
Sunday, 6/15
6/15/1993: Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 100th career home run, which made him the sixth-fastest player to reach that milestone at the time. That homer strut will forever be iconic.
6/15/2003: Reed Johnson hit a leadoff homer for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the first. He enjoyed that so much that he added a walk-off homer in the 10th, as well.
6/15/1998: Sammy Sosa launched three solo home runs against the Brewers. This was part of an insane tear, as he propelled himself into the ‘98 Home Run Chase with 20 homers in June.
