Carlos Delgado’s 9 RBI Day & Felix Hernandez’s Historic Grand Slam – OTD in HR History For Week of 6/23
We also have a record-breaking walk-off from Jim Thome and a couple of three-homer performances.
With MLB’s regular season in full swing, my weekly home run videos have shifted from being random to looking at what happened on each specific day in home run history.
And since you’re on this email list, you get a sneak peek of what I’m sharing for the upcoming week before everyone else does. Enjoy!
Monday, 6/23
6/23/2008: Felix Hernandez became the first Mariners pitcher to hit a home run when he hit this grand slam off Johan Santana at Shea Stadium.
6/23/2012: Jim Thome was tied with Jimmie Foxx, Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Stan Musial, and Frank Robinson with 12 walk-off home runs…until he slugged this one for the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.
6/23/2014: Chris Davis gave the Orioles a walk-off win with this pinch-hit three-run homer.
Tuesday, 6/24
6/24/2024: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit one of the longest home runs of the season, sending this ball 471 feet over the Green Monster.

6/24/1994: Ken Griffey Jr. slugged his 32nd home run of the season. He ended up hitting 40 homers before the league shut down because of the Strike.
6/24/2003: Brad Wilkerson’s day started with a bunt single, and it ended with him becoming the fifth Expos player to hit for the cycle.
Wednesday, 6/25
6/25/1995: Andres Galarraga hit a homer in the sixth, seventh, and eighth inning, becoming the fourth MLB player to do it in three consecutive frames.
6/25/2000: Darin Erstad launched a leadoff and walk-off home run for the Angels. He became the third MLB player to accomplish the feat (and first since 1957).
6/25/2013: Ichiro Suzuki took matters into his own hands to walk things off for the Yankees with this home run.
Thursday, 6/26
6/26/2000: After being in the minors since 1992, Alex Cabrera stepped to the plate for the first time as a big leaguer. He celebrated that moment by hitting a home run.
6/26/2015: Prince Fielder hit his 300th career home run. He and Cecil joined Barry and Bobby Bonds as the second father-son combo with at least 300 dingers each.
6/26/2009: Andre Ethier hit three homers and collected six RBI for the Dodgers. He finished the year with career-high marks in homers (31) and RBI (106) while winning a Silver Slugger Award.
Friday, 6/27
6/27/2008: Carlos Delgado straight-up feasted at Yankee Stadium. He hit a double, a three-run homer, and a grand slam, all of which were part of a nine-RBI day for the Mets.
6/27/1999: Ken Griffey Jr. made the final game at the Kingdome as memorable as possible by slugging a three-run homer in the first.
6/27/2016: Kris Bryant had himself a monster day at the dish, slugging three homers and two doubles. He became just the third MLB hitter to record five extra-base hits in one game (Joe Adcock, ‘54 and Josh Hamilton, ‘12).
Saturday, 6/28
6/28/1991: After hitting two homers the day prior, Barry Larkin hit three more against the Astros.
6/28/2007: Frank Thomas became the 21st member of the 500-homer club after going deep at the Metrodome in Minnesota. It was the same place he hit his first career homer in 1990, too.
6/28/2011: After 299 games without a grand slam, the Mets finally broke the drought in Detroit, with Jason Bay getting the job done (of all people). Carlos Beltrán hit a grand slam the next inning, too.
Sunday, 6/29
6/29/2012: Aaron Hill hit for the cycle, just 11 days after doing it for the first time. He became the first modern-era player to accomplish the feat twice in one season.
6/29/1987: After hitting a homer earlier in the game, Dave Winfield slugged this grand slam for the Yankees.
6/29/1999: Vladimir Guerrero Sr. launched a three-run homer against the Braves to secure an Expos walk-off victory in Montreal.
