9/2/1999: Cal Ripken Jr. slugged the 400th home run of his Hall of Fame career with the Orioles.
9/2/2006: Kevin Kouzmanoff hits a grand slam in his first big-league at-bat.
9/2/2012: A 19-year-old Jurickson Profar goes deep in his first MLB at-bat.
Tuesday, 9/3
9/3/2006: Ryan Howard enjoyed a three-homer performance in the first game of a doubleheader for the Phillies. This brought his league-leading total to 52. He’d finish with 58 before winning NL MVP.
9/3/2011: Tommy Milone (yes, the pitcher) hit a home run in his MLB debut.
9/3/2011: George Kottaras hit for the cycle in Houston for the Brewers.
Wednesday, 9/4
9/4/2017: J.D. Martinez became the 17th MLB player to hit four homers in a game (and second that season). He’s still the most recent slugger to accomplish the feat.
9/4/2006: Charlton Jimerson broke up Cole Hamels’ perfect game with his first career homer.
9/4/2013: Matt Adams hit two extra-inning homers for the Cardinals in a game he didn’t start.
Thursday, 9/5
9/5/2007: Barry Bonds hit the 762nd and final home run of his MLB career by going oppo-taco at Coors Field.
9/5/2001: Preston Wilson hit a walk-off home run for the Marlins.
9/5/2020: Mike Trout’s 300th home run also made him the Angels’ all-time HR king.
Friday, 9/6
9/6/1996: Eddie Murray became the 15th player to join the 500-homer club. He’d finish his career with 504 dingers.
9/6/2006: Jermaine Dye hit his 40th homer as part of a career year for the White Sox.
9/6/1995: Cal Ripken Jr. hit a home run on the night he passed Lou Gehrig to become baseball’s newest Iron Man.
Saturday, 9/7
9/7/1993: Mark Whiten went off in the second game of a doubleheader by slugging four homers with 12 RBI. The swag meter kept rising with each dinger, too.
9/7/2013: The Red Sox hit four homers while beating the Yankees in the Bronx.
9/7/1998: Mark McGwire tied Roger Maris’ single-season HR record with his 61st dinger.
Sunday, 9/8
9/8/2007: Alex Rodriguez joined Babe Ruth, Roger Maris, and Mickey Mantle as the only Yankees hitters to surpass the 50-homer plateau. Aaron Judge has since joined this group…three separate times.
9/8/1999: Steve Finley hit three home runs against the Brewers.
9/8/2015: Kirk Nieuwenhuis gave the Mets an eighth-inning lead with a pinch-hit homer.
Wow, crazy to think Profar was a red-hot Fantasy Baseball prospect coming into the season 12 years ago!!!
