Big Sexy Hits a Moonshot & Josh Hamilton’s 4-Homer Game – OTD in HR History For Week of 5/5
What were you doing when the impossible happened?
With MLB’s regular season in full swing, my weekly home run videos have shifted from being random to looking at what happened on each specific day in home run history.
And since you’re on this email list, you get a sneak peek of what I’m sharing for the upcoming week before everyone else does. Enjoy!
Monday, 5/5
5/5/2015: Adrian Gonzalez launched this two-run dinger for the Dodgers in Milwaukee. He’d finish the year with 28 homers and 90 RBI. It was the ninth and final time he’d surpass the 20-homer mark.
5/5/2000: Mark McGwire visited the upper tank in Cincinnati for this bomb. It’s undetermined if it’s actually landed or not yet.
5/5/2004: Mike Piazza hit his 352nd home run as a catcher, passing Carlton Fisk for the most all-time.
Tuesday, 5/6
5/6/2015: A 22-year-old Bryce Harper went deep three times for the Nationals in DC. He’d finish his first MVP campaign with a career-high 42 home runs.

5/6/2018: Gleyber Torres sent the Yankees home happy with this walk-off homer in the Bronx.

5/7/1999: Carlos Lee hit a home run in his first MLB at-bat, becoming the first player in White Sox history to do that. The rest of his career wasn’t too shabby, either.

Thursday, 5/8

5/9/2019: Albert Pujols became the third member of the 2,000-RBI club by slugging this solo home run.
5/9/2014: Todd Frazier’s leadoff home run for the Reds was an absolute tank, traveling an estimated 485 feet.
Saturday, 5/10
5/10/2009: As a pinch-hitter, pitcher Micah Owings tied things up for the Reds with this ninth-inning home run. His bat flip game was also on point.
