Monday, 8/5
8/5/1999: Mark McGwire launched the 500th home run of his MLB career. He’d go on to hit 60-plus homers for the second straight year.
8/5/1997: Jeromy Burnitz hit a home run in his fifth straight game.
8/5/2015: Jose Bautista slugged a grand slam for the Blue Jays.
Tuesday, 8/6
8/6/2016: Giancarlo Stanton hit an absolute moonshot at Coors Field. This bad boy traveled 504 feet.
8/6/1979: Bobby Murcer had a five-RBI day, including a walk-off homer, on the day of Thurman Munson’s funeral.
8/6/2021: Starling Marte hit an absolute missile to walk things off for the A’s.
Wednesday, 8/7
8/7/1999: Wade Boggs joined the 3,000-hit club. He also became the first player to hit a home run while doing so.
8/7/2010: J.P. Arencibia’s MLB debut was a four-hit day, which included two homers.
8/7/2010: Chris Young hit a leadoff and a walk-off home run for the DBacks.
Thursday, 8/8
8/8/2014: Justin and B.J. Upton set a record for homers by siblings in the same game by each hitting a dinger of Stephen Strasburg.
8/8/1997: Mark McGwire hit his first home run with the Cardinals.
8/8/2000: Bernie Williams and David Justice hit back-to-back homers as the Yankees walked off the A’s.
Friday, 8/9
8/9/2002: Just 16 calendar months after hitting his 500th home run, Barry Bonds racked up another milestone homer by slugging his 600th round-tripper.
8/9/1981: Mike Schmidt went deep during the All-Star Game.
8/9/2006: Mike Piazza returned to Shea Stadium as a visiting player and hit two homers off Pedro Martinez.
Saturday, 8/10
8/10/2004: Aaron Dunn hit an absolute tank at Great American Ball Park. It’s unknown if this thing has landed yet.
8/10/2009: Vladimir Guerrero Sr. enjoyed a two-dinger day on his way to entering the 400-homer club.
8/10/2009: Troy Tulowitzki hit for the cycle while collecting seven RBI.
Sunday 8/11
8/11/2002: Sammy Sosa hit this grand slam to complete a ridiculous two-game stretch for the Cubs at Coors Field. In these two contests, he ended up recording four homers and 14 (!) RBI.
8/11/2010: The DBacks became the 7th MLB team to hit four straight homers.
8/11/2006: Andy Pettitte hit his first and only homer in the big leagues.
Did You Know…
Ken Griffey Jr. appears on the top 10 of the Mariners’ single-season home run leaderboard five (!) times: 56 in 1997 and 1998, 49 in 1996, 48 in 1999, 45 in 1993.
