This Week in Home Run History
July 8th
7/8/2006: José Valentín drove in seven runs for the Mets off the strength of two swings. He did it in the first two innings with a grand slam and a triple.
7/8/2015: Jhonny Peralta silences Wrigley Field with a go-ahead homer.
7/8/2019: Pete Alonso wins his first Home Run Derby title.
July 9th
7/9/1996: Mike Piazza hit an RBI double and this moonshot to help the National League win the All-Star Game. Piazza won midsummer classic MVP honors in the process.
7/9/1991: Andre Dawson takes Roger Clemens deep.
7/9/2011: Derek Jeter homers for his 3,000th career hit.
July 10th
7/10/2001: Cal Rikpen Jr. played in his 19th and final All-Star Game. He won MVP honors and hit this home run at Safeco Field.
7/10/2001: Derek Jeter became the first Yankee to homer in the All-Star Game since 1957.
7/10/2007: Victor Martinez homers in the All-Star Game.
July 11th
7/11/1989: Bo Jackson greeted everyone at the midsummer classic with this leadoff tater.
7/11/1994: Frank Thomas visits the upper deck during the Home Run Derby in Pittsburgh.
7/11/1995: Jeff Conine hits a home run in his first All-Star Game at-bat.
July 12th
7/12/1993: Ken Griffey Jr. put on a show during the Home Run Derby in Baltimore. He launched this ball off the warehouse… on the fly!
7/12/2021: Juan Soto launched a 520-foot moonshot during the HR Derby.
7/12/2021: Pete Alonso beat out Trey Mancini to repeat as HR Derby champion.
July 13th
7/13/1971: Reggie Jackson launched a ball off the transformer during the All-Star Game at Tiger Stadium.
7/13/1971: Frank Robinson launched his own All-Star Game home run.
7/13/2014: Buster Posey and Madison Bumgarner each hit a grand slam.
July 14th
7/14/2008: Josh Hamilton didn’t win the HR Derby at Yankee Stadium, but he sure did put on a show. He slugged 28 homers in the first round.
7/14/1968: Hank Aaron slugged his 500th career home run.
7/14/2003: Chris Davis tied an AL record with his 37th homer before the All-Star break.
